Willpower is a poor building material. Design, timing, and environment do far more of the work.
Habits that hold usually share three properties: they are small enough to be unremarkable, they are attached to something that already happens daily, and they do not require a decision at the moment of action.
When a habit fails, the useful question is which of those three was missing — not whether you tried hard enough.
Track the habit for two weeks before changing anything about it. Most people are surprised by where the drop-off actually occurs.
In short
Make it small, anchor it to an existing routine, and remove the decision. Then measure before adjusting.
