Restriction can work for weeks and collapse in month three. The reason is usually structural rather than personal.
A strict plan works while motivation, routine, and circumstances all cooperate. The moment one of them changes — travel, illness, a demanding period at work — the plan has no version that still fits.
Plans that last are designed with a reduced mode built in: what this looks like on a good week, and what the minimum acceptable version is on a difficult one.
Rather than asking how quickly a plan produces change, ask how it behaves under pressure. That question predicts long-term outcomes far better.
In short
Design for the difficult week, not the ideal one. A plan without a minimum version will not survive.
